Fix grammar without moving your draft

Highlight text in a supported app and Padhow’s small action menu appears near your pointer. Choose spelling and grammar, review the compact result, then copy it or replace the selection. The menu follows your enabled actions, saved prompts and model preferences. Automatic detection requires macOS Accessibility and an app that exposes selected text and its range; you can turn it off in Settings.

Prefer a shortcut? ⌥⇧G runs grammar directly, and other action shortcuts are configurable. Direct shortcuts can copy or insert according to your settings. The explicit launcher shortcut is also available where automatic selection detection is unsupported. Before replacing from a menu preview, Padhow checks the original selection and keeps the answer available for manual pasting if it changed. Try the selected-text example.

Translate, shorten or change the tone

A translation is one of several writing actions. You can also make a note shorter, improve its clarity, summarize a document or ask for a professional tone. Reusable actions and presets let you keep instructions you use often.

For example, select a long project update, ask for a shorter version, then request a Spanish translation as a follow-up. Your selected model handles the generation; quality and language support depend on that model.

Apple Intelligence chat, included on supported Macs

Ask questions, follow up and improve text using Apple’s on-device model, without an API key or per-request API charge. Padhow checks availability during setup. You need macOS 26 or later, compatible hardware, Apple Intelligence enabled and its model downloaded. The Apple route supports text context; use another provider for image attachments.

For more model choices, connect OpenAI, DeepSeek, Anthropic, Google, OpenRouter or another supported provider. Cloud models receive your submitted context and bill API usage separately from Padhow. Consumer ChatGPT and Claude subscriptions generally do not include API credit. Keep your API key in memory for the session or explicitly save it in macOS Keychain. Ollama and compatible endpoints are available in AI settings.

Get to your first edit with guided setup

First launch walks you through choosing and testing a global shortcut, granting macOS access, and choosing Apple Intelligence or an API provider. Checking a cloud connection loads its model list without sending a writing request. Optional access and AI can be skipped. Reopen the welcome flow from Settings → General whenever you need it. Ask a question, with the context you choose

The input also works for direct AI chat. Write a multiline prompt, read formatted Markdown responses and ask a follow-up. Attach selected text, documents, images, webpages or screen captures when they are relevant. Remove context you do not want to include.

Clipboard recording and other extensions have their own controls. Gmail and Calendar data are not automatically forwarded to AI by those integrations. Local usage graphs describe app activity; they are not an upload of your conversations.

How is it different from a dedicated writing app?

Kerlig and Grammarly focus on writing workflows. Padhow pairs writing with app and file search, clipboard previews, local calculations, notes and other tools. If you only want writing assistance, a dedicated product may be enough. If your day involves repeated small tasks between apps, the combined workflow is the reason to look at Padhow.
